The Life for Koori Kids (LFKK) community can be found at Ward Park, Surry Hills, every Saturday morning from 9am to 11am. While bacon, eggs and sausages sizzle on the barbeque for a hot breakfast together with milkshakes and fruit, the kids are busy playing touch footy and other activities with volunteers.
Saturday mornings provide an opportunity for us to work on children’s reading skills, celebrate birthdays, welcome newborn babies to the community and provide a range of support, from sourcing much needed supplies for young families to welcoming a hairdresser to cut hair which she does voluntarily throughout the community.
Our social committee works hard to organise and deliver social, cultural or educational excursions on a regular basis after breakfast. Some favourite activities include swimming lessons at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence in Redfern, fishing, rock climbing, surf boarding and Aboriginal dot painting.
We also link with many youth and family organisations throughout the inner-city area.
