Life for Koori Kids (LFKK) has been organising and delivering the Saturday morning Breakfast Club at the Ward Park community centre, Surry Hills, for over 14 years.
While our volunteers prepare a warm, healthy breakfast on the barbeque, kids and other volunteers share a game of touch footy, enjoy activities or a have turn in the skate park. Parents have the chance to connect with each other and volunteers.
Saturday mornings provide an opportunity for us to assist with children’s reading skills, celebrate birthdays, welcome newborn babies to the community and provide a range of support, from sourcing much needed supplies for young families to welcoming a local resident to cut hair.
Some members have grown up through the program as kids of LFKK and have returned as volunteers, leaders and parents with their own children. The continuity of the program is one of its greatest strengths, ensuring families stay connected.
