Known to all the children as ‘Breakfast Club’, Saturday mornings at Northcott Community Centre is our ‘gathering place’. LFKK has been meeting as a community for the past 19 years on Saturdays and at Northcott Community Centre for 16 years.
While our volunteers prepare a warm, healthy breakfast on the BBQ, kids and other volunteers share a game of touch footy, enjoy activities or a have turn in the skate park. Parents and families have the chance to connect with each other and volunteers. Some members have grown up through the programme as kids of LFKK and have returned as volunteers, leaders and parents with their own children.
Saturday mornings provide an opportunity for us to assist with children’s reading skills, celebrate birthdays, acknowledge individual achievements and contributions to the community, welcome newborns, and identify where further targeted support is required.
Over the years LFKK has participated in the Eveleigh Markets annual Christmas Banner Competition with our very own banner painted by the children in the months preceding the competition. The children were fortunate to have their cultural creativity recognised with numerous first and second prizes over the years.
The continuity of the programme is one of LFKK’s greatest strengths, ensuring families stay connected.
